Veterans Green Villages

Building a sustaianble future with veteran leadership.

In the last couple of days I've met with a couple of local contractors, certified construction and demolition training program directors, as well as large scale developers and real-estate investment people from California.

They heard about what we were doing during a community meeting and wanted to get a tour of the Motor City Blight Busters Artist Village. Farm City, Veterans Villages and of course Large Marge.

It was interesting to talk to folks at different levels of the real estate business that shared the same problems.

There is not enough people trained to get the work done to the scale and the quality they need to be able to make money at redevelopment and while gas prices have dropped Diesel is still $4.00 a gallon.

They came to me to talk about putting a teams together with enough experience to manage the process of recruiting and training crews to address these issues.

I showed them our plan to use the scale of a disaster and the slower pace of Detroit's recovery to train veterans to manage volunteers in disaster response all the way through the recovery and rebuilding process while deploying sustainable energy solutions to fuel and maintain the community they help create.

I'm not positive, but I think they were blown away by the concept of training and providing experience to veterans in managing youth employment crews while they work on actual projects. They also loved the idea of fueling the efforts with biodiesel made from local restaurants waste vegetable oil.
