Veterans Green Villages

Building a sustaianble future with veteran leadership.

  • Sketch, journal, or take pictures during your adventure. If you'd like to share any of this with the group during our virtual campfire on Tuesday, please either email it to me ahead of time or feel free to just bring it with you.
  • Identify one plant, insect, or animal during your adventure. Seek by iNaturalist is a fun tool to try out in order to do so. You're welcome to share about your new "friend" on Tuesday.
  • If you have a mindfulness or meditation practice, try finding time for that during your adventure. Or try using a guided meditation app. A third option is to sit quietly alone or walk alone for 15 minutes, and make note of what all 5 of your senses are doing during this time. Please feel free to share this experience with the group on Tuesday.
  • Visit this National Park Service link to read up on the 10 essentials
  • Have fun!

Hello all-

Aaron, Lornett, and I are excited to welcome you tomorrow to our Adventure From Home outing and training. Please find below a bit more information on our plan for tomorrow, the agenda, as well as the Zoom link. Please feel free to email or call me with any questions. "See" you soon!

Adventure From Home outings are designed to help you in adventuring from home alone and/or with family and friends. Most folks who attend will plan a 2-4 hour day hike in their neighborhood. Although we have had participants travel to access parks and other public lands we strongly encourage you to consider staying local and exploring the nearby nature outside your door or within your community. Please consider your safety and the safety of others in your adventure planning to include COVID constraints and requirements in your area.

On tomorrow's virtual trailhead talk Aaron, Lornett, and I will guide you through the purpose of Adventure From Home outings, and how you and others may benefit from rethinking how you access, explore, and enjoy the outdoors. If you are having difficulty deciding on an adventure, no worries. We will work with you one-on-one following the Zoom call tomorrow to help design your adventure.

Agenda:
  • Trailhead Talk demonstration
  • Trailhead Talk breakout rooms
  • Break!
  • History, purpose, benefits of Adventure From Home outings
  • Adventure From Home Outing Checklist & Cycle
  • Questions

Hi everyone-

Thank you for joining us today!

Please find attached the two presentations from today's sessions, and just below are the writings and podcasts that Aaron referenced during his presentation.

The first link below is to a podcast that aired this week. I really encourage you to listen to the episode. Charm and Amine's stories are powerful and serve as great examples of the potential impact that can come from our partnership (TW: racism, xenophobia, self-harm).
Please feel free to reach out with any questions, and we will be in touch again before the next training session on February 4.

Thank you,
Lindsey
